About CSTS

Joss Whedon's "Serenity," the theatrical follow-up to his hit show "Firefly," was released in 2005 to both critical and fan acclaim, but box office numbers failed to indicate any likely sequel in the near future. Hope seemed lost until the global Browncoat community came up with the idea to not only but Serenity back into theaters, but also do it for a cause!  In 2006, as a tribute to Joss Whedon's birthday, 46 cities in 5 different countries held charitable screenings of the film, a movement dubbed “Can’t Stop the Serenity" (CSTS).  Since then, the global CSTS events have raised well over $500,000 toward Joss Whedon’s charity of choice, Equality Now, which works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world.  Additionally, many participating cities also donate a portion of their earnings to local charities.

Tucson and Phoenix have participated in the CSTS movement since its inception, raising over $45,000 to date. Tucson has donated over $2,700 of that to the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona (WFSA), a local Tucson organization devoted to helping women in need get back on their feet. Phoenix has donated over $3,700 to several different local charities over the years.  We are honored to be able to make a difference for such a wonderful group of people.
