We're still reeling off of our successful CSTS screening (early estimates put us at raising over $4000) and Dr. Horrible winning and then taking over the Emmys, so I wasn't much expecting to have much new news to throw out besides a general recap of CSTS which I promise is coming. And then comes this tweet:
@bookmans: Congrats to the @azbrowncoats for their Phoenix New Times "Best Geeks with a Cause" honor in Best of Phx! http://is.gd/3Cl9x
Yes, out of the blue we've been named the "Best Geeks with a Cause" by the Phoenix New Times! Not sure if there's any pretty trophies and I'm on guard for Kanye West, but this is a great honor! We've been an organized group of like-minded Browncoats since the summer of 2005 (the summer before Serenity) though there were several of us dating all the way back to the series. Since then we've done four years of Can't Stop the Serenity screenings in both Phoenix and Tucson raising in the range of $35,000, we've held monthly shindigs at Bookmans in Phoenix to growing popularity, and we've incorporated into Arizona Non-Profit Organization. If I try to thank anyone specific for their work in making our organization what it is, I'll wind up alienating people. I have a master plan of writing up a proper feature that tells the story of the amazing people and what they've done in our time. For now though, let's just thank all of the Arizona Browncoats, be they members, officers, yahoo group chatters, lurkers, or even the folks that just show their faces once a year. We are a community more than anything else and to be recognized for our devotion to making our world a little better despite the odds is a wonderful thing. While we're at it, we had a gracious guest at CSTS 2009 - Tempe from the New Times' who wrote up a shiny article on us for their Geek Beat blog. Go read it!

The dream comes to pass. :-)
We've always know we can do the impossible, and that we're mighty, but it's nice to see other taking note and sending out the signal.
Congrats to all!
