She joins Wil Wheaton (not a huge surprise there, he's a regular... but still awesome!), LeVar Burton (Reading Rainbow, Roots, and Geordi LeForge on Star Trek: TNG), Jonathan Frakes (William Riker on Star Trek: TNG and prolific television director), the dad from Smallville, a handful of other guys and gals you saw on that one show that one time, and presumably some very famous comic book artists and writers (who I'm sure I would know if I followed comics closer)... but seriously, don't try to deny the fact that you totally just wanna go just to meet the King and Queen of modern geekdom! To be clear, the Phoenix Comicon is still 6 months away and inevitably things will change for better or for worse. One thing that is pretty completely sure though is that our friends at Kids Need To Read will be there and we encourage everyone to show their support in whatever way they can. Not just because it's Nathan Fillion's charity and it never hurts to get in good with the Captain, but more importantly because they are a great organization with very visible benefits to our local community and everywhere they go. We are working with them on finding some volunteer opportunities with them coming up. Keep your ears open, we'll let you know when we know.
The Phoenix Comicon takes place over Memorial Day Weekend (May 27th - 30th) and if you get in before the end of the year you can get a full membership for only $25, which is pretty darn good for the scale of the event. The event will be at the Hyatt downtown with Con rates starting at $119 per night (I think I'll be commuting...). There will be a great deal more news over the coming months, but let us know if you're planning to go. We will try to hold a shindig at or near the con if our numbers are significant.
