Good news everyone! CSTS 2010 is creeping closer and we're making great progress. Enough progress that it's time I present the epic plan we have in store for you. Can't Stop The Serenity is in its fifth year of keeping Serenity alive in the name of Joss Whedon's choice charity, Equality Now. The event is global with screenings in more than 50 cities in 7 countries around the world. Last year, the movement raised $137,164 globally. The Arizona Browncoats have participated every year in both Tucson and Phoenix, earning nearly $40,000 toward Equality Now and local charities over the years. Both cities are very excited to do it all over again in 2010! Hit the jump for the big news and details on a contest. This year Phoenix will be bringing something revolutionary to the event. While we are proud Browncoats and are humbled to be part of such an amazing movement, we feel that we can raise the stakes a little. Imagine if our organization joined forces with some of the other great charitable fan organizations in the valley. For one day, not only would Browncoats have the chance to mingle and relive their movie, fans from all walks of life could unite toward charity and see a trio of truly classic films.
For 2010, with the help of our beloved sponsors, MADCAP Theaters and Bookmans Entertainment Exchange, the Arizona Browncoats have teamed with two other local fan groups for a full afternoon of films, fun, and philanthropy. To find out who those groups are... you're gonna have to be patient. We're gonna roll out the goodies over the next few months leading up to our full scale promotional kickoff at Phoenix Cactus ComicCon. What I can tell you is the day will consist of the full Can't Stop the Serenity experience (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Serenity, merch, raffles, etc.), two classic films that both geeks and the mainstream will find irresistable, a special musical guest for you steampunk fans, and a whole mess of activities that you won't want to miss! Mark your calendar for September 19th for the entire afternoon of our ultimate fan film festival called...
Well, there's the rub. We don't know what to call it, and Super Geekathon A Go-Go doesn't float some peoples' boats as much as you'd imagine. What we need, is a name for a fan film charity festival that will bring in the geeks, but also the mainstream crowd. Something that demonstrates that it's a charity event, but screams out AWESOME! If you're feeling extra creative, throw in a logo. The winner will get... the satisfaction of a job well done. That and the chance to name what promises to be a truly epic event. Also we might throw in some nice shwag to the winning namer. So go forth and give this child-like princess a name!
We'll be taking entries until March 7 (the day after the March shindig, so if you don't have an idea by then you can probably steam someone else's).
