March Alternative Shindig
Renaissance Festival – Saturday, March 13th or Saturday, March 20th
As we discussed at the February meeting, the March Alternative Shindig will a trip to the Renaissance Festival in Apache Junction. The date of Saturday, March 13th was originally suggested. So far, not enough people have signed up for us to be eligible for the group discount ticket price (15 or more people). There were 6 people that signed up to go on March 13th. We've since found out there are Arizona Browncoats headed to the Festival on March 20th as well....(more after the jump) It might be more fun to have everyone go on the 20th. We'll take a poll on Saturday at the monthly shindig (or let us know by response to this post or in the thread on the Yahoo! Forum).
Prices for the tickets at Fry's:
• $18 for adults
• $8 for children 5-12 (under 5 always free).
Prices for the tickets online:
• $19 for adults
• $9 for children 5-12 (under 5 always free).
Prices for the tickets at the box office:
• $20 for adults
• $10 for children 5-12 (under 5 always free).
• $17 for seniors 60 and over
April Alternative Shindig
Arizona Challenger Space Center - Saturday, April 17th
The Arizona Challenger Space Center is at 21170 North 83rd Ave, Peoria. The tour of the center costs $6 ($4 for students 6+ and senior citizens 55+), and the actual mission "Voyage to Mars" costs $17.50 ($15.00 for students and senior citizens 55+). The cost for both the tour and the mission would be just $17.50 ($15.00 for students and senior citizens 55+). The plan is to go in the morning for the tour, have lunch at a local restaurant, and then go on the mission in the afternoon. In order to get a mission we need at least 16 people on the mission "Voyage to Mars."
• Tour – 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
• Lunch – 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
• Mission – 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
There is no age limit for children on the tour, and it's free for children under 5 years old. The mission does have an age limit. It is not recommended for students that are in the 2nd grade or under. Information is given at a 6th grade reading level, so children that are in the 3rd and 4th grade must fly with a ticketed adult.
We did get 11 people that signed up to go on the mission. If you are interested in going, you need to give money to me (Cindy) this Saturday at the monthly shindig so we can confirm our reservation. After that, the Space Center will be open it up to the public to try and get 5 more people to make it a successful experience. Feel free to invite family and friends along on the trip.
