You ask and we deliver. Over the years we've had requests for the recipe we use that makes those wonderful fruity oaty bars we spoil you with at CSTS. We've handed it out before, but after getting another request at Phoenix Comicon, we're posting it on the internet for all time. So, with a special thanks to our own Rebecca Carter who's made our fruity oaty bars possible for the past four years, now you can make your own! ...
Fruity Oaty Bars
These bars are quite tasty (and free of subliminal messages). You can use any fruit combination you like. Rebecca says she's found a pre-packaged mix of chopped apples, cherries, golden raisins, apricots, peaches and plums that works really well. Check out your local farmer's market, Sprouts, Sunflower, or Trader Joe's for some good mixes.
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar or light brown soft sugar
1/2 cup granulated or castor sugar
3/4 cup whole-wheat or wholemeal flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup rolled oats or porridge oats
1 cup mixed dried fruit, chopped
1/2 cup chopped dates
Pre-heat oven to 350°F . Mix butter and sugars thoroughly. Mix in eggs. Stir in flour, wheat germ, oats and fruit. Spread mixture in greased rectangular baking pan, 9x13". Bake 25-30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes then cut into bars. Makes about 24.
